Commentary:

To count minutes in Japanese, simply add (Hiragana: ふん Romaji: Hu-nn) after numerals.
Kanji 分 means "a minute."
1分 (Hiragana: いちふん Romaji: I-chi hu-nn) means "1 minute."
2分 (Hiragana: にふん Romaji: Ni hu-nn) means "2 minutes."

Grammar:

Some numerals with 分 makes 音便 (Hiragana: おんびん Romaji: O-nn-bi-nn) = Phonetic Shift.
When native Japanese intend to speak faster, 1分 is read いっぷん (Romaji: I-ppu-nn) instead of いちふん (Romaji: I-chi-fu-nn). いっぷん is a phonetic shift of いちふん.
音便 (おんびん O-nn-bi-nn) = Phonetic Shift occurs when the upper and lower teeth close.
Both いちふん (I-chi-hu-nn) and いっぷん (I-ppu-n) are acceptable in a formal speech in Japanese.
