Romaji: Chi-i-ki) is regional groups in the
Japanese archipelago.
In Japan,
都道府県 (
Hiragana: とどうふけん
Romaji: To Do-u Fu Ke-nn) = prefectures are defined as administrative units below the national government. For example,
北海道 (
Hiragana: ほっかいどう
Romaji: Ho-kka-i do-u),
東京都 (
Hiragana: とうきょうと
Romaji: To-u-kyo-u to),
神奈川県 (
Hiragana: かながわけん
Romaji: Ka-na-ga-wa ke-nn), and
京都府 (
Hiragana: きょうとふ
Romaji: Kyo-u-to fu) are all called prefectures.
In practice, prefectures are grouped into several regions, based on their climate, transportation, or economic conditions. Each prefecture in the same regional group shares common features. Weather forecasts are easier to understand by region, not by prefecture.
